Dr Kvitova gives advice

Welcome to my personal site!

You are probably thinking about having a baby, or have recently discovered that you are expecting one. If so, congratulations! You are about to embark on a very special journey, after which your life will never be the same again. As pregnancy is a journey that is unique for every mum-to-be, this guide aims to be as comprehensive as possible, covering the whole range of different experiences, questions and concerns.

The months of pregnancy leading up to the birth of a baby are a thrilling time. Mothers love sharing the milestone moments with family and friends, showing pictures from ultrasound scans and thinking about their baby’s arrival. Many women discover a new side to their partner, who suddenly becomes proud and protective of the growing bump, and wants to learn all about the baby’s development (particularly its size in relation to various fruits and vegetables!).

No matter how smoothly your pregnancy progresses, however, yours would certainly be unusual if you did not feel the odd anxiety. There may be a burning issue – such as home versus hospital birth – that you want to consider further, or you may be suffering from a minor complaint that you want to be reassured about.

For answers to all your questions about pregnancy, you need to look no further than this site. I’ll give detailed advice on all aspects of pregnancy, explain how to ensure you are as healthy as possible during your pregnancy, and explore all the different options for antenatal care, labour and birth.  Not all pregnancies and births are straightforward, so there is also information on complications, such as diabetes and pre-eclampsia, as well as multiple births, difficult births, caesarean section, assisted delivery and overdue babies.

I’m a community midwife and the mother of two children. I regularly provide expert advice in Healthy Parenting magazine (Canada).
